Rising Dutch DJ and producer R3hab has established his name in the international dance scene in a short period of time. His producing skills and love for electronic music have made him one of the highest requested remixers in the dance scene right now, remixing for artists like Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Calvin Harris, Lil Wayne, Ne-Yo, Pitbull, Sean Paul, Dada Life, Snoop Dogg and Bob Sinclar to name a few. Friday-Sunday September 2-4 – Electric Zoo @ Randall’s Island, NYC

New York City’s third annual premier electronic music festival is a big one this year by adding a third day for the first time. Headliners include Tiesto, David Guetta, and Armin Van Buuren, and features big names such as Skrillex, Diplo, Boys Noize, Afrojack, Benny Benassi, Calvin Harris, Rusko, and MANY more over the three days. Each day of the festival goes for 12 hours, starting at 11am and going until 11pm. One of the veterans in the Trance game comes to Boston for a Thursday night show at the awesome Club Royale. This venue continues to bring top names in EDM to Boston and although it isn’t this German’s first time playing here, it surely won’t be his last either. Tickets are ridiculously cheap considering he is a headlining act and can be purchased here if you didn’t get enough of him at Electric Zoo.

Thursday September 22 – Lotus @ The Paradise Rock Club, Boston

If you’re looking to get away from the typical EDM scene of House, Trance, and Dubstep, look no further than electronic jam band Lotus. For those of you not familiar with the group, Jesse Miller said of the band’s sound: “I truly believe Lotus’ sound comes from the roots of rock ‘n’ roll mixed with electronic beats that are popular today.” My closest comparison is to the sounds of STS9 and I had the pleasure of seeing both last year in Boston. This show will be a great Thursday night choice.

Yes, you have 3 options for live music on Thursday the 22nd. Here is your third choice: Paper Diamond, who is brought to you by Pretty Lights Music (the record label). Similar to Pretty Lights’ productions, PD uses hip hop beats with electronic synths and soulful samples. I saw him open for Skrillex and he did not disappoint. If you’re looking to rage in the Middle East’s basement with some sick beats, look no further.

Derek Vincent Smith, aka Pretty Lights, has been on a rampage lately. Playing show after show, festival after festival, and releasing original tracks as well as remixes, he has stayed busy in the music scene. And for good reason – he’s widely popular and at the top of the EDM scene. I have seen him several times and I always get excited to see him again. His brand of music is perfect for every occasion, whether it’s partying, chillin out at the beach, spending some time with your woman, or anything else. Get your tickets to this show, with support by Colorado’s Big Gigantic and California’s Nit Grit – I will not be surprised if it sells out.

The duo return to Boston thanks to Embrace Boston. The Middle East basement has become a slut in the EDM world, playing host to sweaty party after sweaty DJ set. Names like Wolfgang Gartner, Feed Me, and Lazy Rich have been through there and Zeds Dead return less than one year after their previous show there. Sure to be a good dubsteppin’ time.

Saturday October 8 – Beats Antique @ The Paradise Rock Club, Boston

I don’t know a ton about these guys but there is always significant buzz surrounding them whenever they are somewhere for a show. Here’s what you need to know from their Wikipedia page: “The styles combined to create Beats Antique’s unique sound are a union of old and new inspirations. There are infusions of Middle Eastern belly dance music, down tempo, hip-hop, old school jazz, clown, afro-beat, and many styles of electronic music. The musicians have been influenced by their diverse musical backgrounds. They incorporate many live instruments to produce an un-charted style of music.” Their second album reached the top 20 for most-downloaded electronic albums on Amazon so I think they’re worth checking out.

Monday October 10 – RJD2 @ The Paradise Rock Club, Boston

Born Ramble John “RJ” Krohn, RJD2′s music brings me back to my freshman year of college. This producer/DJ/musician/singer was introduced to me by my roommate Theo in the form of “Ghostwriter” (below). I couldn’t get the song out of my head. I proceeded to grab the albums Dead Ringer and Since We Last Spoke and they became some of my favorite collections of music ever. The beats are quite unique, yet diverse enough to both chill out to and party to. Unfortunately I missed RJD2 perform at UVM’s Spring Fest my freshman year, but here’s to hoping I can make it to this Monday night show.

The hugely popular Deadmau5 comes to Boston for FOUR days. No, that is not a mistake. He’s playing FOUR shows in Boston at the House of Blues. Why he chose Boston for all these dates? Apparently Boston loves some Deadmau5 because as of August 15th, 3 of the 4 shows are sold out. I already have my tickets and I’m excited to give him a second chance because in my opinion he sucked at Ultra 2011. Opening support by Excision and more to be announced.

One of my favorite live acts comes back to Boston. I always have a great time when I see these guys because the set lists are always changing and their music continues to get more electro-heavy than their earlier days of more jamband-esque sounds. Do yourself a favor and go see STS9 on this date, they will surely make you dance.

Monday October 31 – Pendulum (DJ Set) @ Middle East, Cambridge, MA

A pretty big booking for a Boston show by our friends at Embrace Boston. The Australian dubstep band comes to the Bean for a DJ set that will be sure to make you sweat through all your clothes in the Middle East basement that has seen its fair share of EDM shows. This falls on Halloween so things could get very weird and that’s exciting for us here at MMIBTY. According to Rob Swire’s Twitter feed, Pendulum DJ sets will not be Knife Party (Pendulum’s side project) sets, although I personally wouldn’t be surprised to hear a couple thrown in there.
